My family left Haiti in the seventies to immigrate to Montreal, Canada. I've never been back in over 40 years. I was travelling in India with a friend, and I remember saying it is unfortunate for people to live like this. My friend replied, your country is worse. I travelled to my hometown on the back of a truck. My childhood memories didn't prepare me for the cultural shock I experienced. But, when you look past all this sadness, you'll find beauty, resilience and beatitude.
